You have a functional, beautifully-designed website for your business. That’s a great start, but it won’t do you much good if you aren’t getting traffic, right? Although you might be tempted to increase your website traffic through quick, “easy” techniques, many quick-traffic practices are short-term solutions to a long-term problem.

So, you should, instead, learn how to get traffic to your site with genuine, proven practices that may take longer to perfect. But, they’ll also be well worth your time when you build your website traffic to the point that it steadily grows and converts to more leads and sales for you. Let’s learn how to put some tried-and-true methods of traffic growth into practice.

Why is it Important to Learn How to Get Traffic to Your Site?

Learning how to get more traffic to your website is more than learning how to win a numbers game against your competitors. The idea is to grow your traffic using genuine methods that bring engaged customers to your site. Simply targeting anyone and everyone who will visit to raise your traffic numbers will leave you highly disappointed.

Many visitors might make it seem like your site is popular. But, if your visitors aren’t doing anything – purchasing, signing up, or even asking questions about your business – then you don’t have quality traffic. Helpful traffic can increase the number of eyes that see your business; therefore, increasing your shares, leads, and sales. Understanding how to get traffic to your site will help you learn how to find people who are interested in your business.

How to Get More Visits to Your Website with SEO Targeting

Once upon a time, website owners had to do a lot of tough work themselves when it came to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and targeting potential customers. Thanks to the growth of the internet and digital business, webmasters and business owners have a variety of SEO tools, like Long Tail Pro, at their fingertips to drive traffic and increase engagement.

SEO is one of the most important things to focus on for your website. The right SEO techniques will not only pull in more traffic, but will also pull in quality traffic. The best keywords for your business will target all the right people and bring them straight to the information that they want most.

Find Out What Your Customers Want to Learn

You first need to target the right kind of people who will be interested in your website content and your business before you create content. What type of problem can your products or services solve? You need to target people who need the solution to that problem through keywords that pull them into helpful content.

A good first step is to analyze your closest competitors. What type of content do they provide and what keywords do they rank for? Long Tail Pro can tell you what keywords your competitors are doing well with to pull in traffic to their sites and help their customers with their problems. You can take that important information and make your content stand out with new keywords and helpful solutions.

Optimize Your Content

But, how can you make your content stand out in a sea of web articles? You have to focus on long-form, actionable, and detailed content that makes your audience want to listen to what you have to say. Plus, the longer your content is, the easier it will be to add more keywords that will drive quality traffic. Only about 15% of web content is long-form content, which means you have plenty of room to stand out.

After you create your awesome content, make it shareable! When readers share your content on their own, others begin to see you as an authority and you get free publicity. Add plenty of share triggers, which are pieces of your content that will cause readers to want to share it.

Embedding an Instagram photo or a Tweet is an example of a share trigger that makes it easy and tempting for others to share your content. And, don’t forget to add share buttons for Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ on every post.

How to Drive Traffic to Your Website from Trusted Influencers

For solid, continuous traffic, your potential customers aren’t the only people you need to target. Trusted authoritative influencers in your niche are just as important for driving traffic to your site.

Why? Because people already know them and trust what they say. If these top influencers in your industry start to share your helpful content, it can automatically make you stand out as an authority, too. It’s important to remember that your potential customers may not have the extensive reach that other influencers do when it comes to sharing your information on social media.

Hang around Facebook groups and search for Twitter hashtags for your industry to find out who these key influencers are. They’ll be the ones that others turn to for advice. LinkedIn is also a great way to connect with top influencers. You can do a quick search related to your industry to find them.

Once you pinpoint some top authoritative figures, target them genuinely. Send a message on LinkedIn explaining why you want to connect. Comment on their Facebook posts with meaningful words. Share some of their most helpful articles on Twitter. The more you engage with them, the likelier they’ll be to do the same for you.

How to Get More Traffic to Your Site with Targeted Ads

Placing ads to get traffic is one thing, but if you’re not making your ads highly specific to your potential customer base and what they want, you’ll waste your money. Facebook and Google ads can be great ways to generate traffic and leads to your site, but only if they target the right people.

Facebook Ads let you narrow your targeted audience using very specific filters, like age groups, interests, and even a targeted radius of a city. If you launch a new product that may interest people outside of your current customer base, you can create a new Facebook Ad campaign to target that potential audience.

Google AdWords is Google’s version of targeted ads. These ads can be helpful in targeting people with the same keywords you’d like to target with your website content. With Google AdWords, you can also narrow your options to reach a specific type of person using interest categories, demographics, and more. You’ll get more bang for your buck by drawing in the right people with each advertisement created just for them.

Conclusion: How to Drive More Traffic to Your Website

We’ll reiterate that quality traffic trumps any traffic to your website. If you can get 2,000 visitors to your website every day, but only 10 people make a purchase, your traffic isn’t quality. However, if you get 500 visitors every day and 285 make a purchase, you are reaping the benefits of your increased efforts.

If you want to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to your web traffic, use targeted ad campaigns, leverage the networks of top influencers in your niche, and use proper SEO techniques. Long Tail Pro can also help you analyze your competition to streamline your SEO efforts to increase traffic.
